Joseph Mitchell
Good Morning bloggers! Welcome to this
week’s Transcription Tuesday! This week in the ledger is a page addressed to Joseph
Mitchell. According to the Early History of Dunwich Township 1790-1903 we have
discovered a couple documents registered to the Dunwich Township under Joseph
Mitchell’s name with Thomas Talbot as the granter. Mr. Mitchell also became one
of the first directors of the Tyrconnell Wharf & Harbour Company, recorded
on the 29th of August, 1853. On the 13th of April 1861,
it was recorded that Mitchell had two stock Shares of the Dunwich Pier Company.
His name was also recorded in an Assessment Roll of the Village of Tyrconnell
in 1858 and again in a list of Tyrconnell residence taken from Armstrong’s
County of Elgin Directory for 1872.
*If you have more information on Joseph
Mitchell please feel free to contact us here at the Backus-Page House. Have a
good week and don’t forget to stop in for a tour of the museum and Summer Teas
from 1-4pm every Sunday in August.
