Christmas Events 2008

This year the Tyrconnell Heritage Society was pleased to provide a stop on the Dutton Dunwich Christmas Tour of Homes. The tour was held November 29th and 30th. The tour was a great success raising funds to aid in the renovation of the Dutton Medical Center. Guests who toured the Backus-Page House were treated to an 1850’s Christmas. The final event for the 2008 season was held on the following Saturday December 6th. This annual event featured a proper Talbot Settlement dinner served by candle light and the warm glow of firelight in the Backus-Page House Museum. A small sampling of this year’s menu included a selection of root vegetables, duck, venison and a Christmas pudding with hard sauce. The weather was frightful but company and fine food made the evening a joy.

Dutton Christmas Tour of Homes
The Tyrconnell Heritage Society is pleased to provide community support as a stop on this year’s Dutton Christmas Tour of Homes on November 29th and 30th. Proceeds from the tour will go to aid in the renovation of the Dutton Medical Center. The Backus-Page House will celebrate an 1850’s Talbot Settlement Christmas. Susan Chapman Reinke of the Yellow Cottage will oversee the decoration of the museum. Come enjoy the sharp aroma of evergreens and clove studded oranges while a hearty fire crackles in the hearth and the cast iron stove in the kitchen gives rise to sweet and savory aromas. Join the Tyrconnell Heritage Society at the Backus-Page House as we light the Yule log and toast the holiday season. Running concurrent to the Tour of Homes is our Christmas wreath fundraiser set to help offset operating costs for our non profit organization (please contact the THS for more information about these events, to purchase a tour passport or to pre-order your Christmas wreath).

Christmas Wreath Fundraiser

The Tyrconnell Heritage Society will be holding a Christmas promotion this year to help raise funds to defray site operating costs. The Society will be selling handmade Christmas wreaths. The wreaths are $10 a piece and if you purchase 3 your name will be entered into a draw for a Society membership. The wreaths will be ready for pick up the last weekend in November and as they will be made from grapevine and fresh greenery we advise that purchasers keep the wreaths outside and mist with water to promote a longer display life.
October 4th Evening Out
On Saturday, October 4th , the Tyrconnell Heritage Society hosted an evening of fine dining and entertainment at the beautiful Lakeview Gardens. A live and silent auction was directed by Mr. Dan McKillop. Dan is a most excellent auctioneer and at one point made the ultimate sacrifice, for the sake of charity, and auctioned the tie he was actually wearing.
The Society would like to thank the organizations and individuals who donated items for the live and silent auction. As well the THS owes a debt of gratitude to all the volunteers who worked so hard to make the night a special one. Thank you one and all!
